Several months ago, our Cub Scout Pack 529 in Lake Mary, FL planned a trip to stay on board and tour the USS Yorktown in Charleston Harbor, SC. That was before the move to Atlanta - I was able to work my schedule so we could attend and myself, Diego, and Antonio made the 5 hour trip over from Atlanta. It was a blast. I love history - especially WWII history - and this carrier was part of some very significant battles and served it's country well until it was retired in the early 70's.
The ship will allow "organized" groups to sleep overnight on the ship. This particular weekend had a bunch of scouts staying on board. It was really cool. We got to sleep in the same quarters that the sailors slept in. We also got to tour the ship after hours. They have several retired warplanes in the below deck hanger and the above flight deck. We even had time for a tour of Charleston Harbor via boat, a drive through the historic downtown, and a few hours at the beach. In all, it was a very special weekend with my 2 oldest boys. Best Father's Day gift I could have received - and when I got home, I got big hugs from the other 3 beautifull people in my life and Belinda made me a really good meal.
